The District of North Saanich is located at the north end of the Saanich Peninsula, approximately 25 kilometres north of Victoria, British Columbia, on southern Vancouver Island. North Saanich exists on the traditional territories of the W̱SÁNEĆ people. Specifically, the BOḰEĆEN (Pauquachin) First Nation and W̱SĺḴEM (Tseycum) First Nation are an active and vital part of our community, and the District is committed to respectfully and appropriately engaging these nations in matters of common interest. The District, surrounded on three sides by 40 kilometres of ocean shoreline, is home to the Victoria International Airport, and the Swartz Bay Ferry Terminal.
This area historically emerged from several coastal focal points inward to the interior of the Peninsula. Today, the community-like neighbourhoods, which include Ardmore, Deep Cove, Curteis Point, Cloake Hill/Green Park, Dean Park, and the South East Quadrant, are on the periphery of a rich agricultural interior which is protected by the Provincial Agricultural Land Reserve. Agriculture is very important to the municipality, as evidenced in the number of farms, and road side produce and flower stands.

As a growing community, the District of Sooke strives to adapt its municipal business practices in an effort to provide excellent service and meet community needs. Our website is an example of our commitment to ongoing improvement. Visitors to the site will find new content continually added, a mobile-friendly platform, and opportunities for engagement. Sooke is a vibrant, dynamic and welcoming community. We are fortunate to be located close to nature, and our town motto of “Where the Rainforest Meets the Sea” speaks to the environmental riches of the area.
The District supports land use and development principles that preserve our natural environment, while also creating affordable and accessible housing that allows families to put down roots and thrive as members of the community. Opportunities for community involvement are abundant, our arts and cultural scene is second to none with many festivals and events throughout the year. Our residents are passionate and engaged in civic and volunteer activities.

The Town of View Royal is located on southern Vancouver Island, approximately six kilometers west of Victoria, British Columbia. The Town of View Royal acknowledges with respect that it is within the unceded traditional territories of the Lekwungen peoples, known today as the Esquimalt and Songhees Nations, and that their historic connections to these lands continue to this day. On December 5, 1988 – with a population of less than 5,000 – the Town of View Royal was incorporated and became its own distinct municipality comprising approximately 2,500 hectares of land.
Since that time, the community has experienced significant growth and development while still maintaining much of its small town character. As a gateway between Victoria’s urban core and the growing West Shore municipalities, View Royal today is a thriving community of approximately 11,600 residents located in the Capital Regional District (CRD).

The population of Sidney is 12,318. The mainly flat, walkable community is 5.10 square kilometers and the moderate climate makes it a year-round tourist destination. Sidney’s major economic drivers are manufacturing, retail and tourism.

The original Esquimalt townsite has long since disappeared inside the boundaries of the Canadian Forces Base, which is now the community’s largest employer.
Today, close to 18,000 people live in Esquimalt’s varied residential neighbourhoods and enjoy its many amenities including beautiful parks and beaches, scenic waterfront walkways, modern recreational facilities, schools, library, archives, and commercial services. The Sc’ianew (Beecher Bay) First Nations is located 30kms southwest of Victoria BC. The word “Sc’ianew” (pronounced CHEA-nuh) translates from the Klallam language as “the place of the big fish,” indicating the richness of the sea life in the region that sustains the Sc’ianew and neighbouring First Nation communities with food, shelter, medicine, and clothing. Part of Sc’ianew traces their ancestry to people who spoke four different dialects. The community recognizes all four languages although they are not all currently spoken.
As with other First Nation names in the region, the place name “Sc’ianew” identifies what the inhabitants needed to know about the locale. Sc’ianew lands also include Fraser Island, Lamb Island, Long-neck Island, Twin Island, Village Island, and Whale Island. Today, the Sc’ianew community continues to apply their long knowledge of environmental management in sharing their land and marine resources. Sci’anew First Nation is a party to the Douglas Treaties and is negotiating a modern treaty as a member of the Te’mexw treaty nations through the BC treaty process.

The Esquimalt Nation is a small nation on the water of Esquimalt Harbour. Our traditional name is Xwsepsum, also written Kosapsum. Our connection with the land and the resources of our large territory goes back thousands of years. In that time, we have learned to live in a finely balanced relationship with the seasons, the lands, the tides, and the seasons of our lives that have sustained us. We repaid the land through our commitment to stewardship, and through our ceremonies. We understand this obligation as our Sacred Trust.

For more than fifty years, the Inter-Cultural Association’s purpose has been to support the full integration of newcomer immigrants and refugees into the social, economic and civic life of the Capital Region of British Columbia. We help immigrants form community bonds and deep friendships that reduce isolation and foster positive connections. Serving more than 2,000 newcomers annually, ICA’s work now ranges from guiding immigrant entrepreneurs as they create small businesses that lead to job creation, to supporting vulnerable newcomers by helping them increase their skills and confidence to become healthy, contributing members of our community.
Our Philosophy At ICA, we believe no one who joins our community should ever feel vulnerable or alone. When people have the support they need, they end up giving back far more to the community than they receive. In partnership with more than 500 community partners and generous donors and volunteers, ICA serves as a helping hand, a listening ear, and a tireless advocate for immigrants and refugees. A willingness to try new things and adapt as needed ensures the Greater Victoria Chamber of Commerce remains a modern organization. We embrace contemporary methods for getting results and are consistently a leading organization in our community. This willingness to change with the times is something we’ve done along with our members for 160 years. We also strive to represent all voices in our community, going the extra mile to build relationships that bring people from typically marginalized communities into the wider conversation. And our collective voice makes a difference.
Over the decades, Chamber members have pushed for investment or policies that led to many of the icons and landmarks we continue to enjoy across the region: The Empress, shipbuilding facilities, ferry service to the mainland and to Washington State, the airport, the first parking garage in the city, E&N rail and the University of Victoria are a few of our accomplishments. Established in 1863, the Greater Victoria Chamber of Commerce has played a significant role in the success of Greater Victoria ever since.
Today, with about 1,400 members, the Greater Victoria Chamber of Commerce is one of the five largest chambers in the Province. Our membership reflects the diversity of the business community. We represent the interests of small, medium and large businesses across all sectors as well as members from the not-for-profit sector. Reflective of the character of businesses in Greater Victoria, approximately 80% of our membership is made up of small businesses with 25 employees or less.

Canadian Forces Base (CFB) Esquimalt is the second largest military base in Canada and home to one of the country’s three naval formations. Located just west of Victoria, B.C., CFB Esquimalt was first established as a military installation by the Royal Navy in 1855 and has been serving the Royal Canadian Navy since its inception in 1910.
The base is responsible for providing support services to all ships as well as over 6000 military and civilian personnel of both Maritime Forces Pacific, which is responsible for maintaining multi-purpose, combat-capable maritime forces, and Joint Task Force Pacific, which is focused on the defence of Canada and all civil support operations within the Pacific Region. CFB Esquimalt houses organizations such as the headquarters of the Naval Personnel and Training Group, the Commander of the Canadian Submarine Force, Naval Fleet School (Pacific), and Fleet Maintenance Facility Cape Breton. The base is essentially a community within a community, with its own services including police, fire, postal, legal, health, social work and chaplains to name a few. The base’s security forces, along with the Queen’s Harbour Master, are responsible for the safety and security of Esquimalt Harbour.
The Base Commander is responsible for a distributed property from Masset to Matsqui, spanning nearly 5,000 hectares, spread over 23 sites and encompassing almost 1,500 buildings. CFB Esquimalt and Maritime Forces Pacific contribute over half a billion dollars annually to the local economy, and the entire Defence Team is proud of its contributions to the local community through fundraising and volunteering.
